Putting the roof back on!

Finally some of the structure is going back on and we can see some real progress.  The below pic is the rear dormer but it gives you an idea of how big the master bedroom will be.  The opening in the middle is for the french doors and side panels. It's 2400mm by 1975mm. There will be a Juliet balcony in front of the doors.

This is a view from the front of the property. There will be a large flat roof in the middle. A 1200mm by 600mm fixed roof dome window will be placed here . This will hopefully brighten up the front of the lounge as well as the stairwell.

Annoyingly my council's building control insist on triple glazed windows for the flat roof windows which bumped the cost up.

Slight change of plans. I have decided to put two Velux windows in the bathroom and not put one at all in the walk in wardrobe. As the walk in wardrobe will only get minutes worth of use a day I didn't see the point of having natural light. Also it would turn the small room into a sauna in the summer as it would be so hot. I sourced Duratec roof windows -which are made by Velux but rebranded as Duratec. They're an older style made by Velux but come in at around 35% of the cost of a Velux equivelent. So a lot cheaper

Duratec Window   They come with a 10 year warranty which is an added bonus.

This roof should be tiled and weather tight by Friday or Monday at the latest.

  1. It's normal to have a minor change of plans when you're up for a home project like this. Sometimes, in the middle of the construction, you will see a better concept than the first one. It's fine as long as you have the budget and you trust your contractors in making this project a success. So, how did it go? I hope that the roof was installed the way you want it.

  2. Changes are normal. At least, you saw the need to change while you're still setting up and not when everything has already been installed. Also, you should be glad that, because of the last minute changes, you were able to make good buys and was able to save from your windows. Anyway, how about your roof? Were there any last minute changes in it too?

  3. Still a good plan though. To come up with a great plan, one must have good imagination. I think that what you are thinking is for the better and still sounds good. However, along with change of plans is the added expenses or unexpected cost. So, be careful and keen with that. Good luck on the building!

  4. I had a same construction carried for my house. One of the worker hadn't really inspected his fibreglass extension ladder and he had a great fall.
Fortunately he suffered from minor injuries.
